Introduction
Japanese major was set up in 1992. At the very beginning, it included two subjects: Japanese service and secretarial Japanese. Business Japanese was established in 1999 and was awarded as "school-level" excellent course In 2002. In 2005, the school was approved to be upgraded to a college, and Japanese major became one for undergraduate students, from which there have been 6 patches of undergraduates up to now. Japanese is the university key course and also was awarded as a provincial-level characteristic specialty by Shandong Provincial Education Department. The college has created a new cultivating model, namely, "Japanese major+trade and business knowledge+doing things in Japanese language".
Objectives
The college aims at fostering applied and interdisciplinary talents with all-round development to meet the needs of regional economy and society, who have basic Japanese knowledge and are skillful in using the language, who have comprehensive ability of discovering, analyzing and solving problems and work as interpreters, translators and negotiators in foreign affairs office, trade sectors, and even culture and education departments.
Students are sure to master the basic Japanese language, know about international business theory and professional knowledge. They will have capability of listening and speaking and can communicate with Japanese speakers. They are sure to have translating and interpreting competence, do international business with Japanese. Furthermore, they are sure to have capability of innovation, organization and coordination. Last but not least, students are sure to have the sense of team work, participation and social competition with perseverance.

The major aims at cultivating applied and compound Japanese talents with high quality, build a teaching model based on general education and Japanese learning, which focuses on the combination of professional knowledge and practice. It also aims at developing practical professional knowledge in accordance with students' demands and social needs by strengthening basic Japanese to train their capability for competition, building better teaching practice system to improve students' Japanese competence by taking advantage of the International Language and Culture Practice Teaching Center.

The Department of Japanese will adhere to fostering applied talents and improving curriculum system to multiply talent students with good Japanese competence so that they may serve the regional economy better.
The department hopes to be allowed to establish postgraduate site, attaching great importance on building a group of teachers with high quality and scientific research capability, improving our curriculum system to get ready for applying for establishing postgraduate site.
